Find Your Puppy

Five puppies born August 5 by planned C-section with my reproductive veterinarian: three boys and two girls. Both parents are cream, so every puppy is cream, in shades from almost white to a warm biscuit. Five is a big litter for a Frenchie, and Blanca has handled it without any trouble. She was inseminated on progesterone timing, as all my bitches are. For the first three weeks I slept beside the whelping box and weighed every puppy twice a day. They had Early Neurological Stimulation from day three to day sixteen. At six and a half weeks they are weaned onto softened kibble, using a litter tray most of the time, sleeping in open crates, and hearing the vacuum, the blender and the neighbor's parrot every day. Their ears are coming up one at a time, which is why some of the portraits are lopsided. I check nostrils at every weigh-in. All five have open nares at this age, and I will update each family after the eight-week veterinary exam. Beau carries CMR1 and Blanca is clear, so no puppy can be affected. Puppies go home from October 14, at ten weeks, each with a Florida health certificate. The theme, for the record, is pastry.

Pia was inseminated in August and her ultrasound on September 17 showed at least four puppies. Her C-section is booked for the week of October 19, and puppies would go home at the very end of December. Remy is brindle and carries fawn and pied. Pia is brindle pied and carries fawn. So I expect mostly brindle puppies with perhaps a fawn or two, and about half of them pied. Neither parent carries cream. Remy carries DM and Pia carries HUU, and each is clear of the other's, so no puppy can be affected by either. Both parents are respiratory Grade 0. Two places on this litter are held by deposit. I will take two more and then close the list until I can count puppies. This will be Pia's last litter.
